The below resource is to assist Parents and Managers to understand each volunteer role.

During Home Games our Ground Manager will also be able to assist with any questions.
The following roles may be required (depending on location of game and Age Group) -

Goal Umpire
Goal Umpire – Required for ALL age groups – Home and Away
Function
• Adjudicate on scoring during the match by standing behind the Goal line in
line with the flight of the ball. If the ball is high move to a position under the
ball’s flight to judge the correct score. If the ball is coming in low, move to the
post on the line to see that the ball crosses the line fully.
• Both Goal Umpires must waive the flags for a score. One flag is used for a
behind, and two flags are used for a goal.
• For Competition Games (U12 and Higher) Enter score on card and check with other Goal Umpire at the end of each quarter by meeting in the middle of the field, and at the end of the game,

Time Keeper
Time Keeper/Scoreboard – Required for ALL age groups – Home Games
• To act as the official keeper of time for the duration of the match, and record
the score on the scoreboard.
• Sound the siren to start the quarter once the Umpires have raised the ball in
the air to signal they’re ready to commence and begin the timer.
• Stop the clock and sound the siren (if it is required) at the end of each quarter.
• Time keepers are required to record the time that players, who are ordered off
the field by umpires, and are the sole judges by timing as to when players
may resume playing. It is the club of the offending player’s responsibility to
obtain the all clear from the timekeeper for the player to resume playing.
Umpire Escort – Required for ALL age groups – Home Games
• The Umpire escort is to escort the Umpires to and from the venue at the
commencement of and conclusion of each quarter and at the commencement
and conclusion of the match.
• The Umpire escort is to take water to the Field Umpires each quarter break.
• An umpire exclusion zone should be implemented at each quarter time
encompassing the centre square. The Umpire Escort is to stand with the
umpires during the quarter time breaks.
• If a team manager, coach etc try to approach the Umpires it is the job of the
Umpire Escort to ask them to follow the By Laws and to go to the Ground
Manager to address issues.
• If a person approaches an umpire and speaks or behaves inappropriately you
must inform the Ground Manager.
